A cancer diagnosis can be the most frightening event in a person's life.
Linda Dukart's job is to make it less so.
I can't take this thing away. I can't take the cancer away," Dukart said. "But I can maybe take some of the edge off."
Dukart, a registered nurse, works as a cancer care navigator at Billings Clinic.
She and three other nurse navigators guide people with cancer through treatment and recovery.
Each navigator specializes in certain types of cancer, for Dukart, it's diagnoses in the head, neck bladder, prostate or kidneys.
"Things can happen really fast:' she said. "It's just overwhelming."
Patients are usually referred to her by the doctor who diagnosed the cancer.
