Ingrid Matthews challenges string players to look at Baroque music anew

even as a teenager, when I had really no exposure to a lot of the other Baroque composers, Bach was my favorite thing to practice," says Ingrid Matthews, one of many young string players who have decided to pursue careers in early music. "I remember that when I was first working on solo Bach-the G-minor sonata-my teacher (Steve Shipps] sent me to the music library to listen to recordings of it. While a lot of the recordings were really amazing, the truth was that none of them sounded how I felt, deep down, that Bach should sound.
