THIS IS THE TALE OF MY 30-YEAR JOURNEY in search of performance. Like many journeys, just when you think you've reached the end of the road, the path takes an unexpected turn. For now, this journey has had four distinct turns, or phases, and seems fairly complete. But just up ahead I think I see another turn in the road...
