Overrepresentation of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students In Special Education
Clara, an adolescent American Indian student, has just completed an intelligence test. A few weeks after her test, Clara's parents are called into the school and are told that their daughter has been suggested for referral and possible placement into special education. Clara's parents, who remain uninformed by the teachers about the referral and placement process, then attend her IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meeting and voice little opinion.
