An alternative to fuel oil, Orimulsion, may begin supplying the 1050-MW Coleson Cove generating station in Saint-John, NB, Canada, thanks to an extensive conversion project planned by owner New Brunswick Power Corp, Fredericton, NB (Fig 2). The conversion, scheduled for completion in 2004, will enable the station to meet tighter emissions standards for SO subscript 2, NO subscript x, and particulates, while further diversifying the utility's fuel portfolio. A new fuel-supply agreement signed by the utility and Bitumenes Orinoco SA, Caracas, Venezuela (US office: Bitor America Corp, Boca Raton, Fla), becomes the largest supply contract in the 11- yr history of commercial Orimulsion use.
