Surprisingly few people are aware of what may be Northern New Jersey's best kept business secret. From Jersey City to the George Washington Bridge in Hudson County and from the Hudson River to Tonnelle Avenue in Bergen County, some 400 embroidery plants dot the horizon of this North Hudson corridor. The region produces 70% of the embroidery in the U.S. The bad news: that number used to be 90%. This once thriving commercial embroidery hub is losing its vigor--and marketshare. Unless something is done, one of New Jersey's most vital economic resources could fade to extinction.
