GONE ARE THE good old days-when the Japanese flooded the art and antiques market with wads of vastly expendable cash, driving up the prices of fine art and collectibles and creating market frenzies for collectors where none had existed before. Tom Trutt, who has been running photography collectibles shows in New York and New Jersey since 1959, remembers that era well.
"One man flew in from Japan for a camera show with seven of his employees, each carrying two empty suitcases. By the time they left at the end of the day, those suitcases were full and $700,000-$800,000 had changed hands.
