Article: Elections bring hope to Democrats

Prior to November 8th, many considered the state and local elections would be a barometer of the nation's political mood. Given the recent troubles facing the White House and the GOP in general, it appeared that turnout against Republican candidates would forecast the outcome of the 2006 Congressional elections.

As the polls closed Tuesday, it was apparent that the Democrats scored some impressive victories - namely the governorships in New Jersey and Virginia. Both were hotly contested. Democratic Senator Jon Corzine had an overwhelming victory over Republican Doug Forrester in New Jersey.
