When Encor Technologies (Mt. Gilead, OH), a strategic supplier to Whirlpool, bid on a dryer lid project with a highly compressed time schedule, it tapped longterm supplier JM Mold (Piqua, OH) for the tooling. JM, which design and builds die cast and plastic injection molds for automotive customers and others, could cut molds from databases, making changes on the fly. Nimble suppliers like this are essential these days, says Tim Swanson, senior engineer at Whirlpool's St. Joseph Technology Center (St. Joseph, MI), because compressing time to market is a top survival strategy for the company.
