Indonesia To Buy Output From $6 Billion CTL Project

Pertamina President Widya Purnama announced that British Columbia-based Accelon Energy System signed a "memo of understanding" for a $6 billion "Solar Synthetic Mining" coal-to-liquids (CTL) diesel project in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The operation is scheduled to begin in 2008 and expected to produce about 28 million barrels/year of synthetic diesel, all of which will be sold to Pertamina, Indonesia's national oil company, for local distribution.

This CTE project is part of Pertamina's "commitment for energy alternatives," tied to a goal to cut Indonesia's dependence on diesel imports, Purnama said. The project will tap about 10 million metric tons/year of low-rank, sub-bituminous coal ...
