DOE May Fund Pa. Waste Coal to Liquids Plant

The U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) says it will probably decide by May or June to move ahead with a co-funded demonstration plant in eastern Pennsylvania that uses waste coal in the FT process. Pennsylvania-based Waste Management Processors seeks federal funding for the first CTE plant in the U.S. that would use anthracite culm, or locally abundant waste coal.

The $612 million plant proposed in Schuylkill County near Gilberton would produce more than 5,000 barrels/day of diesel and naptha from up to 4,700 tons/day of anthracite culm.
