Spokane Federal Credit Union has faced hurdles to expansion as it has sought to meet stiff competition from several state-chartered credit unions here, says its president and CEO, Byron Edgett.
State-chartered credit unions can offer their services to a much broader range of prospective customers than federally chartered credit unions such as Spokane Federal, Edgett says.
Because of its charter, Spokane Feder al in most cases has had to choose between marketing to select employee groups or to designated geographical areas such as neighborhoods within the city of Spokane, but not both, he says.
