THE PAST FEW YEARS HAVE BROUGHT A PROLIFERATION of ISO 9000-based quality systems. Correspondingly, the number of ISO 9000 consultants and auditors available to help organizations prepare for registration has increased. But no matter how good a consultant or client organization is, the same problems continue to be found, reported, and corrected in one audit after another. The solution lies between the audit performance and follow-through on audit results. In other words, somewhere between the delivery of the auditor's product (the audit report) and the customer's use of the product (corrective action) there is a breakdown.
