Charlotte County issued the following news release:
The new exhibit Crate Expectations: Florida Citrus Labels opens to the public at the Charlotte County Historical Center in Charlotte Harbor on Tuesday, January 24.
Thousands of distinctive labels were used on wooden citrus crates in Florida between the late 1800s and the 1960s, and this colorful paper artwork that identified Florida citrus crates helped to create and sustain a favorable image of the state. Long discontinued, these labels provide a panorama associating Florida with various aspects of health, wealth or beauty from a bygone era.
