London, Jan. 23 -- A new research on mice has found that the malaria parasites, which scientists previously believed could develop only in the liver, has now been found to develop in the Lymph nodes as well.
Robert Ménard, who led the study, said that the findings almost certainly had implications for the mammalian immune response. The dreaded disease is caused when a mosquito infected with Plasmodium bites a mammal, and the immature parasites travel to the animal's liver. Once they have fully developed, the parasites burst out of the liver cells and infect red blood cells, beginning the onset of malaria.
