The Washington state Department of Employment Security issued the following news release:

The Employment Security Department is seeking legislative help to fight fraud in Washington's unemployment-insurance system, which robs the system of tens of millions of dollars each year. The centerpiece of the effort is a $1.8 million budget proposal that would enable the department to go after an additional $14 million worth of fraud in the first year alone. The funds would provide staff to implement detection tools, investigate additional cases, and collect from employers who try to evade taxes and from people who incorrectly claim unemployment benefits.
