The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics issued the following press release:

The Air Travel Price Index (ATPI) rose 6.4 percent in the third quarter of 2005 from the same period in 2004 (Table 1), the biggest one-year increase in four years, to reach the highest index level since the second quarter of 2001, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today.

BTS, a part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, reported that the 6.4 percent year-to-year rise in the third-quarter level to 109.2 (1995 1st quarter = 100) was the biggest rise in the index level from the same period the previous year ...
