New Delhi, Jan. 30 -- Union Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday that India was deeply concerned about the vicious cycle of violence and counter-violence and the consequent deterioration of security in West Asia, and added that maintaining peace was the key to sustaining New Delhi's historical ties with that region.
Inaugurating the Eighth Asian Security Conference here today, Mukherjee said that this year's theme of "Changing Security Dynamics in West Asia: Relevance for the Post 9-11 Systemic", was particularly relevant since "India's security is closely linked to that of the West Asian region."
