SEN. GREGG COMMENDS 'STRONG CHOICE' OF THAD ALLEN FOR COAST GUARD COMMANDANT

Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, today praised President Bush's nomination of Vice Admiral Thad Allen for Commandant of the Coast Guard. Sen. Gregg recognizes the important work that has been accomplished by the Coast Guard, and has strongly supported funding for the Coast Guard. In Fiscal Year 2006, the Senate version of the Homeland Security Appropriations bill included $1.141 billion for the Coast Guard for the acquisition, construction and improvement account, as opposed to only $789 million provided in the House bill.
