It is now possible to digitize hard-to-reach surfaces or large complex parts on the shop floor with a noncontact digitizer from the French company Kreon Industrie (US branch in Rochester Hills, MI). The unit uses a laser plane triangulation sensor fixed to the end of a Faro articulated arm. Users move the articulated arm to digitize complex objects by passing the device over surfaces in any direction and in any order, much as if they were using a paint spray gun.
