The office of Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, issued the following press release:
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) today called the Bush budget an assault on Iowa law enforcement, saying that the President's proposed cuts to law enforcement and anti-drug initiatives would hit Iowa especially hard. The President's budget eliminates critical resources for crime fighting and drug enforcement across Iowa. Specifically, the proposal could force a 50 percent reduction in the number of federally funded law enforcement officers statewide.
