The education and training needs of farm women have long been overlooked, although they are critical to the advancement of individual farm operations, farm women as a group, and Canadian agriculture. Traditionally, training programs in the agricultural sector have been developed and delivered for full-time male farmers operators.
The Canadian Farm Women's Education Council (CFWEC) was founded in 1987 at the Third National Farm Women's Conference in Saskatoon. The main purpose of the CFWEC was to identify and speak out on farm women's training needs and barriers to their fulfillment.
