MARICOPA COUNTY AIR QUALITY DEPARTMENT LIFTS WOOD BURNING RESTRICTIONS

Maricopa County issued the following press release:

The Maricopa County Air Quality Department lifted wood burning restrictions on Thursday but urges residents not to light a fire if you don't have to.

"We've experienced an unusually high particulate pollution season," states department director Bob Kard. Some of the factors causing our dusty air pollution include:

* vehicle emissions

* vehicles driving over dusty roads and surfaces

* vacant (dirt) lots

* leaf blowers

* wood burning activity

Kard says our dry weather is not helping. "We definitely need to see some moisture. Rainfall would help take the dirt out of the air and bring it back down to the ground."
