Article: DISTRICT'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS SLIGHTLY TO 6.0 PERCENT

The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services issued the following news release:

The District of Columbia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased in December 2005 to 6.0 percent, down 0.1 percent from November. Over the year, the rate was 2.8 percent lower than the 8.8 percent rate in December 2004.

"Over the past year, the District has seen a steady decline in unemployment," said Gregg Irish, Director of the Department of Employment Services. "The December rate is the lowest level we have experienced in over four years - since March 2001. I am happy to announce that the city is experiencing a substantial improvement in labor market conditions."
