The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs issued the following news release:
Gov. Edward G. Rendell, Adjutant General Major General Jessica Wright and federal officials delivered a message today to Washington D.C.: "Do not cut the Pennsylvania National Guard's combat brigades."
Nationally, the Pentagon is proposing to cut six National Guard heavy combat brigades. Pennsylvania is home to two of these brigades. One heavy brigade is headquartered in Scranton and the other is in Washington, Pa.
One plan would remove one heavy combat brigade and portions of an aviation brigade from the Pennsylvania National Guard. If finalized, this plan would mean the commonwealth would lose ...
