Quinn kicks off Sept. 11 public health trust fund

On the heels of a second NBC employee perhaps having anthrax symptoms and other media becoming targets of similar threats, former Illinois Treasurer Pat Quinn and Dr. Quentin Young Sunday unveiled kickoff plans for a Sept. 11 public health trust fund to fight bioterrorism.

"We have to, as a society, invest more resources in public health. This has been a passion of Dr. Young ever since he became a physician," said Quinn.

"We're proposing to put a referendum on the ballot in Cook County next March seeking $25 million a year from the annual money we get on the tobacco lawsuit settlement" that Quinn says amounts to about $300 million annually ...
