After spending approximately $2 bilion, Husky Energy Inc. began pumpng oil on November 12 from the White Rose field in the Jeanne d'Arc Basin, approximately 350 kilometres east of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. "We are pleased that the first oil production has been achieved on schedule and on budget," says Husky President and CEO John Lau. There are an estimated 250 million barrels of recoverable oil at White Rose.
This is Canada's third Atlantic offshore oil project, 72.5% owned by Husky, the operator, with Petro-Canada holding the remaining 27.5% (the other two offshore projects: Hibernia, currently producing 140,000 b/d, was first on stream in 1997, and Terra Nova, 35 kilometres ...
