Gov. Janet Napolitano, D-Ariz., issued the following news release:

Earlier this month, Gov. Janet Napolitano proclaimed January 2006 as Stalking Awareness Month in Arizona. The state is among the first in the nation to observe Stalking Awareness Month and bring attention to this serious crime.

National Stalking Awareness Month across the country is as an opportunity to educate the public about this pervasive crime that affects nearly 1.4 million Americans a year.
