Article: Electronic Health Information Technology Act Introduced by Rep. Clay

WASHINGTON, March 7 -- Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., has introduced the Electronic Health Information Technology Act of 2006 (H.R. 4832), legislation that would "amend the Social Security Act to establish an Office of Health Information Technology for the purpose of creating a national interoperable health information infrastructure, to provide loans to health care entities seeking to implement such infrastructure, and to provide exceptions to certain health anti-kickback laws to encourage the dissemination of health information technology."

The bill, introduced on March 1, is being co-sponsored by Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev. It was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.
