Sleep Train Inc. is buying the 55-storechain for about $55 million, extending its reach into the Pacific Northwest and expanding its store count by more than 40 percent, the company said Wednesday. The seller is Atlanta-based Simmons Co., one of the world's largest bedding makers. The purchase, expected to close in August, would give Citrus Heights-based Sleep Train a presence from the Mexican border to the Canadian border, with the exception of the core of Los Angeles, Sleep Train president and founder Dale Carlsen said.
