Caribbean Sun Airlines said it will end flight operations on Jan. 31, citing competition from major U.S. carries. The two-phase shutdown includes terminating all Caribbean Sun flights between San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, by Jan. 16. Then, the Fort Lauderdale-based airline is to end all remaining operations and close its operational hub at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan. Caribbean Sun Airlines launched in January 2003. It is a sister company to privately held , which incorporated in Antigua in January 2000.
