Gander Mountain Co. reported another disappointing first quarter, but said Wednesday that it had expected the loss due to a seasonally slow sales time and after taking on expenses of opening new stores. The St. Paul-based outdoor products and services retailer reported a loss of $23 million, or $1.61 per diluted share, in the quarter ended April 29, compared with a loss of $17.6 million, or $1.23 per share, in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue, however, increased, showing a 15 percent jump to $155.6 million from $135.3 million. Analysts estimated the company would have a 70 cents per share loss, according to Thomson Financial.
