OOLONGS TEA BAR in New Haven callsitself a contemporary tea bar with an Asian flair. The flair comes mostly in the row of overhead Japanese lanterns strung above the long counter near the entrance, where most diners sip tea and eat soups, sandwiches, wraps and desserts. In the rear, there are five tables and a display case at the far end with teas, teapots, tea candles, tea lotions and other tea-related items for sale. I prefer a quiet table in the rear, where it is possible to sip serenely. The 50 loose teas available include rare ones like my favorites, the Chinese earthy Pu-erh and Iron Goddess of Mercy, and the premier Japanese green tea gyokuro.
