MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - AK Steel union workers voted Monday to reject what the company called its final contract offer, extending the seven-month-old standoff at the Middletown Works plant.
Machinists union local president Brian Daley said the contract was rejected "substantially" but didn't immediately release vote numbers.
Hundreds of union workers gathered outside a veterans' hall to await the vote count cheered Daley's announcement.
He said union members distrusted much of the proposal, thinking that their jobs would not be secure, and were opposed to terms that would have increased the company's ability to outsource work. He said they also opposed proposed back-to-work conditions that ...
