What does the HighBeam blog Enhancer do?

The HighBeam Blog Enhancer lets you cite and share the full text of HighBeam Research articles quickly and easily on your blog, web site, or e-mail. You can boost the readership of your blog or web site by adding rich links to HighBeam content to it. You’ll differentiate it from other blogs and be able to offer more and better information from the HighBeam archive of more than 3,500 newspapers, magazines, journals, books and transcripts.

At HighBeam Research, we realize an important part of research is sharing information with other people. Our Blog enhancer lets you do just that whether you use it on a Blog, Web site, or E-Mail.

How does the HighBeam Blog Enhancer to Share this article work?

To share an article, you create a link from your web site to the article. To create the link, just click on Blog this article on the article page. A pop-up will appear and guide you through the link creation process. You will create a customized link that you can simply cut and paste to wherever you want the link to appear. Users who click on the link will be able to see the full text of the article.

Please note, only FULL MEMBERS of HighBeam Research can create Full Text links. All other users can still create links, however, users who click on the link will only see the amount of text that their membership level provides.

How long does my link to the full text last?

The link lasts as long as you keep it on your site. But users will be able to see the full-text article for only 7 days after the link is created. After that, they’ll see an article preview and be able to take a free trial to see the full text. They can also see the full text by becoming HighBeam Research members.

If you want to link to the full text of the article after 7 days, you can create a new link to the same article.

How do I edit a link once it is created?

You can copy or move the link as long as the part that references the HighBeam Research page remains unchanged. If you make a mistake in creating your link, you can create a new link using the link creator.

The pop-up message says I can't create a full-text link. Why not?

A few publishers have elected not to participate in the HighBeam Blog Enhancer, so you can’t create a link to the full text of their articles. But you can create a link to a short preview of the article. You can also quote from a portion of the article to include in your link.

I created a link, but my friends can't see the full-text article. Why not?

There are five possible reasons:

  • You weren’t a Full Member of HighBeam Research when you created the link. You must be a Full Member to share full-text articles. If you aren’t a Full Member you can’t create links to the full text of articles, but you can create links to the article preview.
  • You were a Full Member when you created the link, but, you’re no longer a Full Member. If you cancel your full membership, you can’t share the full text of articles.
  • You created a link from a publication that doesn’t allow HighBeam Research to show full-text articles. A few publishers have elected not to participate in the HighBeam Blog Enhancer, and you can’t create links to the full text of their articles.
  • The article link is more than 7 days old. Full-text links are available for 7 days after the link is created. After 7 days users can see a preview of the article and take a free trial to see the full text. When your full-text link expires, you can create a new full-text link that will be valid for another 7 days.
  • You have created more than 10 links in one day. You may only create up to 10 full text links per day. After the 10th link, you can continue to create links, but, users will not be able to see the full text on any new links.

How many links can I create?

You can create an unlimited number of links, but, you may only create up to 10 full text links per day. After the 10th link, you can continue to create links, but, users will not be able to see the full text on any new links.

What is the welcome message?

To customize the experience for your users, you can create a welcome message that will appear on the web page that displays the article that you link to. Your welcome message will greet the users that click on your link. The welcome message is limited to 60 characters.

How do I add a quote to my link?

You can add a quote from the article you are linking to, to the link that will appear on your site. Simply cut and paste the text into the box in step 2 of the link creation process. You are limited to 600 characters in the link text.
