What is RSS?
RSS (which stands for Rich Site Summary, RDF Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) is a technology that makes it easier for users to stay updated when new information is posted on web sites. Instead of visiting all the sites you want to keep track of, RSS brings all the new information from those sites directly to you.
For HighBeam members, RSS is a fast, convenient way to track new information on a topic or publication without having to sign onto HighBeam Research every day. You can also use RSS to keep track of blogs and other sites that aren't updated regularly or that you don't visit regularly.

RSS
How does it work? An RSS reader on your computer regularly collects new information on many different sites -- known as RSS feeds -- and summarizes this information on a single page on your desktop. When you see something of interest, you click on it and get the rest of the article. At HighBeam Research, you can create feeds based on topics you're researching. These feeds will update your reader when there are new results for your search.
How about an example? Let's say you're researching real estate. You simply set up an RSS feed, and your RSS reader notifies you when new articles about real estate are added to HighBeam Library. You can set up an RSS feed for a specific publication, too. If you want to know when new articles from HealthCare Financial Management magazine appear, for example, you can get an update when these articles enter HighBeam Library.

What are the benefits of RSS?
RSS saves you the time and effort of checking multiple sites every day. It also helps you manage information from a wide variety of sites. You can create feeds for your favorite sources, so instead of checking these sites daily you can open your RSS reader and get new information automatically. It's fast, easy, and very, very convenient.

How often will I get updates?
HighBeam Research updates content daily. How often your keyword feed will be updated depends on the search terms in your RSS feeds. If you choose a search term that produces many new results every day, you'll receive more frequent updates. HighBeam RSS will send you a maximum of 30 results a day, so there may be additional new results on HighBeam Research.
How often your publication feed is updated depends on the type of publication, its delivery rate (daily, weekly, monthly), and when it releases its content to HighBeam Research. If you select a newspaper, you'll receive many updates every day. Because we don't want to overwhelm your reader, we'll send you a maximum of 50 results a day.

Why can't I create an RSS feed for certain publications?
Not all publications are updated regularly. Many books and maps, for example, aren't updated at all. Publications that aren't updated regularly are not included in our publication feeds.

How do I manage, edit and delete my feeds?
You can create feeds from HighBeam Research by following the directions above. If you want to delete a feed, however, you must delete it from your RSS reader. If you want to edit a feed (that is, change the terms that the feed searches for) you must create a new feed (a new set of search terms) and delete the old feed.
