Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has developed a TFT LCD (thin-film transistor liquid crystal display) panel that features a response time of around 4 milliseconds, four times as fast as the company's existing TFT LCD panels.
The company will work to further improve the panel's picture and viewing angle with an eye toward releasing commercial products in two years.
Response time is measured by how long it takes the liquid crystals to move and change brightness when subjected to voltage. For LCDs, slow response time creates the "ghosting" effect that occurs when on-screen objects move quickly. The problem is particularly apparent for objects displayed in halftones.
