There may be a new greenhouse at Southern Cayuga High School in Poplar Ridge next fall - if a $30,000 money-raising campaign is successful.
The Southern Cayuga Agricultural Education Advisory Board and Southern Cayuga FFA Booster Club are organizing the grassroots effort. They want to purchase a 30-by-48-foot greenhouse, complete with propane heating system, ventilation, inlet shutters and polycarbonate covering on a gravel floor.
It will serve as a classroom laboratory for students to learn such things as hydroponics, biotechnology and integrated pest management. They hope the students will produce a crop of Christmas ...
