A bloomin' good job Horticulturalist gives a green thumbs up to his career.(Neighbor)

Have you noticed the large, hanging potted plants near Elgin City Hall and the Hemmens Cultural Center?

Ken Jones, the city's horticulturist, gets credit for them, and almost every other flowering plant the city grows, particularly the pink, blue, purple and white flowers in hanging baskets near City Hall.

"I get to give the visitors and the citizens of the city something which I feel is pretty neat to look at," Jones said. "I see it as a return on their tax dollars."

The plants can also be seen on the Chicago, Highland and National Street bridges.
