Fluorescent light bulbs should be recycled.(Government)

By now, many consumers know that those funny-looking little fluorescent light bulbs last a whole lot longer than the old-fashioned incandescent variety - up to 10 times, actually - but eventually they, too, do burn out.

Then the question arises: How should you dispose of these things?

The county's Waste Management Division has the answer.

Fluorescent bulbs shouldn't be thrown out in the garbage because they contain trace amounts of mercury, waste management experts say.
