Jun. 1--Moscow is 12 time zones and half a world away from the Puget Sound region. But it will get a great deal closer beginning Thursday with inauguration of non-stop jetliner service between Sea-Tac International Airport and Moscow.
Aeroflot Russian International Airlines will fly two round-trips weekly using the new Ilyushin 96M jetliner.
The four-engine jetliner, about the same size as Boeing's new 777, McDonald Douglas' MD-11 and Airbus Industrie's A-340, is a Russian-American hybrid. It features U.S.-built Pratt & Whitney engines and flight controls and navigation equipment by Rockwell-Collins, another American firm.
