Sikorsky's S-92 helicopter leaves Eurocopter sceptical. (Sikorsky Aircraft)

Sikorsky Aircraft is expecting to test flight its S-92 helicopter in the second quarter of 1998 in hopes that it may capture a share of the medium helicopter market between the year 2000 and 2020. According to the company, the period will see sales of helicopters climb to 5,000 units. According to Eurocopter, a French-German consortium with a stake in the NH-90 helicopter program, Sikorsky's forecast is too rosy since the market has yet to support sales of 3,000 units over a 20-year period.
