Water filter may make lead problems worse.

Recent findings reveal some home water filters actually add lead to tap water, sending shock waves to water-worried consumers who purchased filters to protect themselves from such contamination.

The study, from the Environmental Quality Institute at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, looked at 13 home water filtration systems with separate sink-mounted faucets. They ranged in price from $100 to $300. Over a three-week period, the water left standing in the faucets--water normally drawn for a drink--was measured daily for lead.
