San Jose, Calif. - Fujitsu Ltd. and Philips Consumer Electronics have undertaken joint development of plasma display panel (PDP) modules with an eye toward increasing performance and cost-effectiveness for use in consumer flat-screen TVs.
The two companies are no strangers to each other in the PDP business. They have been working together in the field since 1996, with Fujitsu (Tokyo) supplying PDP modules on an OEM basis to Philips (Eindhoven, Netherlands) for use in flat TVs. The new agreement advances the relationship into the realms of engineering-resource sharing and the exchange of intellectual-property rights as the companies codesign PDP devices.
