Smith & Nephew plans UK launch of artificial skin in October

A tissue engineered dermal replacement for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, jointly developed by UK health care company Smith & Nephew plc and US company Advanced Tissue Sciences (ATS), will be launched on the UK market in October this year.

In a statement on its six month results, Smith & Nephew said launches of the product, Dermagraft(c), in some northern European countries and Canada are planned before the end of the year, based on regulatory approvals, while launches in other global markets are planned throughout 1998.
