Fertilizer Patent Dispute Pits Inventor Against American Cyanamid.

Nov. 30 -- A Costa Rican businessman who says he invented a device to fertilize banana plantations without harming workers is locked in a patent war with one of the largest sellers of agricultural products in the United States.

Edgar Hildalgo Vargas says his fight with American Cyanamid Co. of Parsippany, N.J. has taken him from the courts in Costa Rica to the patent office in Washington, D.C. He's come to Miami lawyer Jay Sanchelima for help.
