The thermometer reads a whopping 90 degrees, but Charlotte Yakovieff of Greenbelt doesn't care. She's spending her afternoon running around the soccer field at Greenbelt's Buddy Attic Park.
Miss Yakovieff wants to be fit to carry the Olympic torch, which will be handed over to her at 9:24 p.m. Thursday.
The 1996 Olympic torch relay began April 27 in Los Angeles and ends July 19 in Atlanta, where the Olympic flame will be used to light the cauldron for the opening ceremony of the Centennial Olympic Games.
About 10,000 torchbearers across the country are participating in the relay, and each will run up to one kilometer.
