LAS VEGAS -- Primary care dermatology for African American patients over age 50 most often relates to pigmentation issues and the natural process of thinning and drying of the skin over time.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the National Medical Association, Dr. A. Paul Kelly gave a quick primer of dermatologic conditions that can affect any patient but are more often seen with aging in African American patients:
* Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra. This term describes fleshy, raised hyperpigmented papules that may be pruritic, said Dr. Kelly professor and chief of dermatology at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles.
