ROANOKE BIBLE COLLEGE RECEIVES $1.5 MILLION GIFT.(LOCAL)

ELIZABETH CITY - Roanoke Bible College received a gift Friday of about $1.5 million, the largest donation in the riverfront school's 52-year history. College officials estimate the donation could be worth more than double that when paid in full.

Donor Doris Eakes of Kure Beach, near Wilmington, chose the college because of her family's longstanding connection. Her gift comes in two parts.

Eakes put $4.2 million into a charitable remainder trust to equally benefit three schools, including Roanoke Bible College. The local bible college's portion could grow to more than $4 million if the stock market is kind, Eakes said.
