SUFFOLK -- Their goals: more swimming lanes and no basketball games on the racquetball court.
The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is beginning a $1.5 million expansion of its Godwin Boulevard facility. Y officials are kicking off the capital project Tuesday with a $72,000, monthlong fund-raiser.
``We need more equipment and space,'' said Jeff Ward, executive director of the Suffolk branch. ``We're busting at the seams now.''
Board member David Kelly said the Y needs to keep pace with the growth in residential development. The expansion should allow the Y to double its number of recreational programs.
